How do I configure MailRush without changing my existing MX records?

Updated Nov 2, 2026

A MailRush email account can send without touching your MX records. You choose this per domain in its DNS setup.

Steps

  1. Open the account's View DNS in Email Accounts.
  2. Under How will this domain use MailRush?, choose Outgoing campaigns only (keep your current inbox provider). To change a saved choice, click Change mode.
  3. Publish the records shown. The MX card says Keep existing: no MailRush MX record is needed.
  4. To detect replies, click Turn on reply forwarding (owner or admin), publish the MX record shown for the forwarding subdomain, and at your email provider forward a copy of incoming mail to the forwarding address, keeping the original message.

What changes with Outgoing campaigns only

  • Replies and bounce reports keep arriving at your current provider. Without reply forwarding, MailRush cannot see them: the Inbox, stop-on-reply and automatic bounce suppression do not work for this sender.
  • Reply forwarding covers replies only, not bounce reports. Only replies that arrive after forwarding starts are detected.
  • Reply forwarding has no extra charge. Recipients never see the forwarding address: your own address stays the From and reply address.
  • Primary mail hosting points the domain's MX to MailRush instead, so replies and bounces reach MailRush. It affects incoming mail for the entire domain.

Troubleshooting

Microsoft 365 does not forward.
An admin must allow external forwarding. Use mailbox forwarding or a redirect rule that keeps the original message.
Reply forwarding is not offered.
It is not available on every mail server yet; the DNS setup says so when it is not.
