Why are my emails bouncing?

Updated Nov 2, 2026

A bounce is a report from the receiving server that your email could not be delivered.

Common causes

  • The mailbox does not exist, is disabled or is full, or the domain cannot receive email.
  • SPF, DKIM or DMARC fails or is missing.
  • The provider blocks your domain or IP, or its filter rejected the content.
  • Too many emails too quickly (usually a temporary rejection).

What MailRush does

  • Hard bounces mark the contact invalid and unsubscribed and add it to your Suppression List.
  • Soft bounces (temporary problems) do not suppress the contact.
  • A domain without a mail server makes campaigns mark the contact invalid.
  • Many bounces from one sender to one provider on the same day pause that sender for that provider until 00:00 UTC.

Reduce bounces

  • Validate contacts before sending, especially old or bought lists.
  • Keep your DNS records correct.
  • Lower the Daily Sending Limit while you clean the list.
