How do I manage unsubscribed contacts?

Unsubscribed and suppressed contacts are skipped by all your campaigns automatically.

Ways a contact is unsubscribed

  • They confirm Yes, unsubscribe me after clicking the unsubscribe link, or use their email app's unsubscribe button.
  • You unsubscribe them: open the contact in Contacts (Edit), go to the Subscription tab, uncheck Subscribed and click Save Subscription.
  • Your system calls POST /api/v2/contacts/unsubscribe.
  • A hard bounce or a clear spam complaint suppresses the contact automatically.

The Suppression List

  • In Settings, tab Suppression List, add an email address or an entire domain, with an optional reason.
  • Before deleting someone who asked not to be contacted, add them to the Suppression List. An unsubscribe is stored on the contact, so a deleted and re-imported address would be treated as new.
  • Emails sent through the API are not checked against these lists.
