How do I import contacts from a CSV file?

Updated Nov 2, 2026

The import has three steps: upload, map fields and assign tags.

Before you start

  • A CSV file prepared as described in "How do I format my CSV file correctly?".

Steps

  1. Go to Contacts and click Add Contact.
  2. Click Choose CSV file, select your file, then click Next: Map Fields.
  3. Match your columns to MailRush fields, then click Next: Assign Tags.
  4. Type a tag name and click Add for each tag the new contacts should get.
  5. Click Submit. You see "Contacts imported!" and return to the contact list.

What gets imported

  • Rows without a valid email address are skipped.
  • Addresses already in your contacts are skipped; existing contacts are not changed and do not get the new tags.
  • Without a tag, the contacts get the tag untagged.
  • Imports stop at your plan's contact limit: extra rows are skipped.
  • Importing does not validate addresses and uses no validations.

Troubleshooting

"Contact limit reached (…)."
Your plan's contact limit is full. Delete contacts you no longer need or upgrade your plan.
"Only CSV files are allowed!" or "Error uploading CSV."
Save the file as CSV (comma-separated) and keep it under 10 MB.
Accents or special characters look wrong.
Save the file as UTF-8 CSV and import it again.
